Unpredictable

Doesn't it always seem that when you think you have figured out what life is and the impending events to come, a sudden turn of events occur and derail you from your path you have so meticulously planned? Doesn't it infuriate you to see all your hard work and efforts disappear in an instant? Washed away as though it was nothing more but just another mere speck of dust and dirt on the pavement of the street? I'm sure that all of you (I guess it's all right to say all) have at least encountered such misfortune at least once in your life. It is inexorable for all of us to experience it. For example: In basketball, one minute you think you have just dribbled your way past your defender, then suddenly both your legs and your opponent's get tangled together and you lose your footing. Then, gravity takes over and pulls you to the ground with little effort. You fall in an akward position and you hear a sickening,"Crack!"... You moan in agony and clutch your arm in pain. You attempt to move it but no matter how much willpower you sum up, it just doesn't move. The sight of an arm bending beyond its supposedly angle sends a horrific image to your brain. You seem to be lost for a moment in time, trying to comprehend what had just turned into an irrevocable reality. A bead of cold sweat runs down your spine and your nerve impulses run amok throughout your body's nervous system. You feel as through lightning has trickled down your whole body. You become paralyze, numb for a few second, then the horrible truth creeps into your mind until you start thinking: I was just playing basketball. How did I end up breaking my arm?

That was my experience. That was how i felt when i broke my arm. My right arm to be exact. I broke both my arms, left and right. But my left arm will serve to be another story to tell in later posts. I thought that i had tricked my opponent, but almost as soon as i passed him, the unpredictable foot of his caught mine and i flung forward, with my momentum, and pulled to the hard concrete by the unforgiving, merciless gravity. There was no hint that such an accident was abound, there was also no possibility of foreseeing this tragedy. That's how life is. Unpredictable.

Life's unpredictability makes it interesting. If not, our lives would be a dull bore. We would just be robots going through our oh-so-boring daily life routine. Everything could be calculated and there would be no surprises. In truth, we need some moments of fireworks in our life, moments that seem to be bring out the best in life and makes it enjoyable. There are two types of unpredictability that life can present.

A)The Good Type
There are some unpredictabilities that spice up our life. They give us a sense of accomplishment, joy and satisfaction that brings a whole new level of meaning to the word happiness. for example, the girl/guy of your dreams has just expressed his/her love for you. This lucky but not altogether impossible experience is considered the good type of unpredictability because it manages to make you feel as though you are on cloud nine. You get flabbergasted by the news and momentarily feel lost even though you are amongst a crowd. You suddenly get tonguetied and the impact of the words manages to make you feel as though you have the ability to defy all the rules of science and just fly into the sky. Roaming through the soft, moist clouds and feel the warmth of the sun's rays on your skin. What a good feeling...

B)The Bad Type
As mentioned, we cannot hide and avoid the bad things, unfortunate things and the unforeseen disasters and accidents that lurk around us, waiting for the perfect, unsuspecting moment to pounce and catch us unawares. Making us feel its joy in its own sadistic little way. We can never enjoy a bad event that has rendered us crestfallen. No matter how hard we try, it is impossible to act as though nothing has happened and carry on. No matter how adamant we are in trying to deny any wavered feelings, no matter how we try to deny ever feeling that sense of misery, it is etched in our memory like a scar. Visible only when we have nothing to do. Then, the full effects of the incident will come like a wave, engulfing us in its despair.

There is no way of knowing for certain what will happen the next second, minute, day or even year. But we can always look forward to it, given all the unpredictable events that may occur. We should all go with the flow, and let fate take its course and present us with its gifts or punishments. Living life to the fullest is really the best way to tackle all the uncertainties and whatnots in life. Accept the unpredictable events with your arms and hearts wide open. Then, life has more meaning to it.
